Diving Saona Island

This paradise island located in the southeastern corner of the Dominican Republic, is the largest of its coast. And its impressive beauty is the typical desert island postcard with beaches of fine white sand, bathed by the warm and crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea.

The definition of “paradise on earth” perfectly expresses what Saona really is: a natural sanctuary, belonging to the Eastern National Park, which has an impressive landscape, the whitest sands, a virgin and lush nature, Palm trees, coconut trees, mangroves, crystal clear turquoise waters and coral-rich, colorful tropical fish and giant starfish that can be seen very closely in natural pools.

Saona Island offers the ideal environment to lie on the beach, walk and swim in its turquoise waters. But without a doubt, diving and snorkeling are the top activities to get to know the impressive and colorful underwater bottom of the island.

You will be picked up at the Bávaro-Punta Cana hotel where you are staying, from where we will transfer you by private minibuses to the town of Bayahibe.

From Bayahibe we will embark on the catamarans to sail in the direction of Saona Island. Before arriving at destination we will make the first dive dive in a sunken ship no more than 14mts. where you can observe inside and outside its fauna and flora, a place with beautiful corals and abundant marine life.

Once on the island, the companions of the divers will go down to the beach where they can snorkel in the reef that is right in front, at a depth of 1 to 4 meters. Meanwhile, the divers will continue until they reach the great reef, where they will have the second dive, enjoying fauna, flora, corals and sea sponges at a depth not exceeding 16 meters.

After the dive, the divers will disembark on the beach to join the rest of the group and enjoy together a good time of sun, bath and photos. Later, we will go to the Caribbean buffet to savor a tasty meal with drinks included.

In the afternoon, we leave Saona Island in the direction of the mangroves, crossing the Catuano Canal, from where we can observe them. Later we arrive at the National Park of the East, to take a dip in the largest natural pool in the Caribbean and admire and photograph the giant starfish, providing for this unforgettable moment with a national drink (Brugal Rum, beer and soft drinks).

Finally we return to the starting point (Bayahibe beach), to get on the transport and return to your hotel of origin.
